A huge lineup of events at the Lonsdale St Festival

altThe program for the upcoming Lonsdale Street Greek Festival (27 & 28 February) is set to be one of the biggest ever, with three dedicated stages filled with music, dancing, competitions and cooking demonstrations.

Look out for the Delphi Bank Stage located at the intersection of Lonsdale & Russell St featuring a number of local bands including Nea Vradia, Halkina and the Kinisi Band, along with a demonstration of the recently launched Tsifteteli Pump (a fitness routine using Greek dance) plus our famous Zorba til you Drop competition.

This year’s stellar main act, Alkinoos Ioannides, and band will be on stage on Saturday evening. Half way down Lonsdale Street, the Qatar Airways Stage will see new talent emerge during our newly established Magic Mic singing competition, a host of local dancing groups reflecting the many regions of Greece, an outside broadcast from SBS Radio and DJs from Rythmos FM.

The always popular cooking demonstrations will take place at the Procal Flavours of Greece Kitchen (set up near Swanston & Lonsdale St) where Melbourne cooks and chefs will share some of the their favourite recipes. These include Kathy Tsaples (Sweet Greek), Philip Vakos (Bahari), Angela Nicolettou (Angela’s Kitchen), Spiri Tzintziras (Writing Spirit), Angie Giannakodakis (Elyros) and Mary Valle (Mary’s Kitchen). During the evening, the kitchen will flip to a ‘taverna’, bringing together rebetika, folk and Cretan bands.
