The new series of the Greek History and Culture Seminars

altProfessor Elizabeth Minchin launched this year's Greek History and Culture Seminar series, which is offered for the sixth consecutive year by the Greek Community of Melbourne (GCM), with an interesting lecture about the importance of learning Ancient Greek and Latin.

The launching of the new seminar series was held at GCM's Greek Centre of Contemporary Culture and was attended by more than 200 people.

The head of the organizing committee of the seminars Dr Nick Dallas, welcomed the audience, explaining that this year's seminar program includes a range of interesting lectures by distinguished scholars and experts in various fields from all over Australia and overseas.

In her lecture Professor Minchin explained why, in today's world, we should continue to study the languages and literatures of the ancient Greeks and Romans, who are so remote from us both in time and in space.

GCM vice president and member of the organizing committee of the seminars Mr Theo Markos thanked everyone for their participation in the seminars and stressed the importance the GCM is giving in promoting our language and culture.
