Description

Greece, 2013, 100mins (Drama)

Director Michalis Konstantatos

The latest filmic tome to take up residence in Greece's controversial yet compelling 'weird wave' of cinema.

The debut feature for Athenian filmmaker Michalis Konstantantos, Luton is a chilling examination of existential discontent and the capacity for violence that lies beneath the surface of three contrasting and seemingly everyday lives.

Jimmy (Nicholas Vlachakis) is a 17 year-old high school student from a wealthy family. Thirty-something trainee lawyer Mary (Eleftheria Komi) longs for emotional intimacy, while 50-year old family man and Mini Mart proprietor Makis (Christos Sapountzis) is fed up with the monotony of his work and family life. Craving a way out of their stifling collective existential crises, the link between these three characters becomes apparent in the film's chilling and all-too real conclusion.

"The viewer is left longing for more to chew on after being introduced to a new director with an engaging viewpoint." Cineuropa
