The Brides of the Begona |
![]() The migrant ship “Begona” made many trips to Australia caring passengers from Europe. On one particular journey in 1957 it transported over 900 brides. Peter Photakis, a 12 year old boy at the time, along with his mother and two brothers, were fellow passengers on that voyage. His research over the years has focused on uncovering the fortunes of these brides through countless interviews and encounters. Peter is adamant in recording and preserving these stories to ensure that future generations have access to them and are better able to appreciate their Greek heritage. Peter is also the president of the South Australian EKEME, a life member of Glendi Festival and writer. When: Thursday 27 July, 2017, 7:00pm |
