Support needed for a Domestic Violence Crisis Centre

altEarlier this year in March at the International Women's Day event organized by the Dimokritos Women's Committee, Psychologist - Dr Eleni Kalambouka, presented on the issue of Domestic Violence and how it is dealt with by women today.

We also had Brimbank City Councillor Georgina Papafotiou present her personal experience and journey as a Victim of Crime.

Due to Ms Papafotiou’s position and voice in the community, several victims have come forward and are assisting her to make Legislative change and develop a support Centre for other victims in crisis.

Ms Papafotiou is determined in making change and her goals are as follows:

1. In the near future to establish a Violence Crisis Support Centre – a triage centre for any victim of any form of violence to be able to attend
2. A petition with 10,000 signatures to the Legislative Assembly - requesting change to legislative law for repeat criminal offenders, harsher penalties and the review of current Intervention Orders

The petition will be presented at the following event organized by the Women's Committee of the Dimocritus in cooperation with Dr E Kalamboukas and Ms G Papafotiou.

Where: Cultural Centre of Dimokritos at 583 High stNorthcote.

When: Sunday 1st July 2018. Time: 2.15pm

We urge Community organizations, Clubs and other Community groups to attend and actively participate in the discussion to improve safety laws in our community by assisting to collect signatures for the petition.
