The GCM presents Mauthausen and Other Songs of Humanity |
The Greek Community of Melbourne is proud to present Mauthausen and Other Songs of Humanity to be performed at Melbourne Recital Centre on Wednesday 29 April by two of the world’s greatest voices, Maria Farantouri from Greece and the Israeli tenor Assaf Kacholi. Tickets are on sale today! https://bit.ly/2u8gjUJ "The Ballad of Mauthausen", a melancholic yet inspirational piece is a cycle of four arias with lyrics from poems written by Mauthausen concentration camp survivor, Greek poet Iakovos Kambanellis, with music by the legendary Mikis Theodorakis. Mauthausen will be accompanied by a selection of Mikis Theodorakis’ most beautiful and memorable songs including settings of poetry by Seferis, Elytis, Cavafy and Lorca. The concert doubles as a tribute to Greece’s favourite composer- Mikis Theodorakis, as he approaches his 95th birthday. When: Wednesday 29 April 2020, 7.30pm |
