School activities: Farewell to Mikis Theodorakis

2Our students, parents and teachers of all Campuses offered last week an emotional farewell to Mikis Theodorakis, the beloved Greek composer whose spirited music and life of political defiance won international acclaim and inspired millions.

During the assemblies we had a "visit" from our former Principal, Manos Tzimpragos, who shared some of his personal memories of Mikis Theodorakis.

A walk a day

The students of Grade 4 of our Bentleigh Campus were surprised when their teacher Vicky Lambropoulou asked them to leave their virtual classroom and go for… a walk!

The activity was different from what our students were expecting, but definitely refreshing, enjoyable and educational. The computers were turned off and all students, accompanied by a parent, went for a walk in the neighborhood or in the nearby park, to smell, touch, pick flowers, listen to the birds, relax and embrace nature. Returning to class followed a discussion about what the children saw and felt.

The aim of the activity was to bring calmness and to eliminate stress that has been caused to the students by the lock down. Walking in nature allows the brain to relax and put itself in a state of contemplation. Mood swings of any type go away… with a walk.
