July is the month of struggle and hope for Cyprus

The poets and writers of our community are invited to write poetry in Greek or English, about the occupied parts of Cyprus, cities, towns, villages, about Famagusta, Morphou, Kyrenia, and so many other beloved places full of thousands of years of history.

We invite the Cypriot refugees to write about our missing persons, the people taken hostage, their beloved places, and provide them to us for printing. Our ultimate goal will be to publish an anthology book entitled: Messages of hope for Cyprus from the Hellenes of Melbourne.

On the day of this event some poets will be able to present their writings. However, to avoid a very long event, we first ask that the writers send their poems to us by July 18, 2022, so that we can decide on the duration of the presentations. However, all the appropriate writings will be published in the mentioned anthology.

Presenters: Academics Thanasis Spilias and Yiannis Milides will speak in Greek and English on the theme: Missing persons, Hostages, Occupied Cities: The Cyprus of Struggle and Hope

Two books translated into English will be presented: Tholos, by K. Charalambides, poems about the missing persons and Famagusta Regina, by K. Charalambides.

The event will also include a photo exhibition prepared by Yiannis Milides with the theme:

Famagusta before the invasion of 1974 in contrast to the tragic city today.

Place of event: Cypriot Community of Melbourne, 495 Lygon Street, Brunswick East.
Date of event: Sunday, July 24, 2022, at 3:00 p.m.

Please note: We ask those who are interested to be part of the anthology book, to send their writings to Yiannis Milides, at the email: This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it
