Australian Book Launch - “A Greek Folk Journey: Travel, Culture and Gastronomy”

altOn Sunday 15 March 2020 the English version of the book “A Greek Folk Journey: Travel, Culture and Gastronomy” authored by Terina Armenakis will be launched in Melbourne at the Greek Centre, 168 Lonsdale St Melbourne , Mezzanine level at 6.30pm.

Greece is famous for its glorious history, archaeological wealth, democracy and contribution to sciences, but it is also a land of rich folk heritage. “A Greek Folk Journey” acquaints you with this folk heritage by providing an insight into the abundance of customs, festivals and events to be found in all corners of the country, presented by the month. Ancient and more recent traditions live on in many of Greece's cities, towns or the smallest of villages, thanks to the dedication of local communities, cultural associations and local authorities. And if that is not enough, “A Greek Folk Journey” serves up regional dishes, helping you to savour the flavours of glorious Greece.

Award winning author of the book Terina Armenakis was born and raised in Addis Ababa to Greek parents. She acquired her Bachelor of Economics, BSc. in the UK and attended a Master’s Degree, at Reading University on Economics and Politics of the EU. In 1993, she was appointed Honorary Consul General of Ethiopia in Greece, serving in this position until recently. Although she comes from the investment and banking sector, Terina is passionate about her Greek roots and serving the wider community. In 2018 Mrs Armenakis received the Carolos Mitsakis Award from the Society of Greek Literary Translators for the promotion of the Hellenic ethnographic culture.

Visiting Melbourne to attend the launch, Mrs Armenakis explains that she wrote the book “as an ode to her heritage and to capture traditions for generations to come”.

The book will be launched by SBS Journalist Dina Gerolymou and the event is free of charge.
