The GreekStudent Film Festival is returning in 2025, offering students a unique opportunity to use the Greek language creatively and collaboratively, develop confidence, and perhaps even take the first steps toward a future in filmmaking.

This initiative is a collaboration between the Greek Film Festival, the Greek Community of Melbourne, the Education Office of the Consulate General of Greece in Melbourne, the Department of Education and Training, and the Modern Greek Teachers’ Association of Victoria.

All films will be screened at Palace Cinema Como during the final day of the 2025 Greek Film Festival, Sunday 26th of October 2025.

Students and groups wishing to participate in this year’s competition are invited to express their interest by completing the link by Friday, August 22, 2025.

  • The PARENT/ GUARDIAN CONSENT FORM must be completed and signed for all participating students and returned to us, by the teacher/ person in charge, via email.

The theme for 2025 competition is:

“Democracy”

Democracy is more than just a political system – it’s a way of life, a value, a right, and a shared responsibility. This year students are invited to explore the theme “Democracy” through a short film (fiction, documentary, or animation) that creatively reflects personal experiences, emotions, or stories.

Some inspiration prompts:

· Democracy in everyday life – How do people make decisions in school or at home?

· Young people’s voices – Can you speak up about things that matter to you?

· Rights and equality – Are all voices heard? How do we address racism or bullying?

· History or fiction – Imagine a time or place without democracy.

· Freedom and responsibility – What happens when people cannot make their own choices?

Democracy starts with you. Use your camera to show us what democracy means to you with your voice, lens and creativity.

Participants are encouraged to interpret the topic as creatively as they wish.
