Event Details
In this series of lessons, we will explore the bouzouki as a solo instrument. Deeply rooted in the Greek folk tradition, particularly the rebetiko and laiko repertoires, we will also experiment with incorporating the bouzouki into other musical styles, building on its rich history.
Our focus will include the musical scales and rhythms of Greek folk music. We will start by analyzing these elements and then practice them through rebetiko or laiko songs. Additionally, we will delve into the broader musical traditions of the Eastern Mediterranean, emphasizing both melodic analysis and harmonization of scales. This will involve exercises in fingering, picking techniques, and combining these skills to approach the bouzouki in new and creative ways.
