Coming Out For Christmas is the story of twenty-something Alex who brings her Aussie girlfriend home for her family’s Christmas lunch and discovers her conservative family is hiding from everyone. A comedy about family, community, and living your truth.
Performed in 2022 to sold out audiences, this is a story that celebrates a zany Greek-Aussie Christmas where family secrets collide with cultural expectations and unexpected guests threaten to blow up Alex’s chance at true love.
“Navigating a Greek Christmas, well any festive event within an ethnic community in Australia, is joyous: there’s catching up with relatives, family friends, and of course there is the amazing traditional dishes that are less and less common everyday because they take days to cook” says writer and director Demetra Giannakopoulos “…throw in a queer couple and unexpressed anxiety about what the “rellos” think, and well, it’s either a comedy or will end in tears, or both and everything in between. “
