Modern Greek Courses for Adults for 2018

Our Courses in 2018

Learn Modern Greek by attending our courses offered in 2018 and planned according to the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages *

Courses: Modern Greek A1, A2, B1, B2, C1 levels (Click each level to see the classes offered)

Term 1 (29 January - 29 March) – 9 Sessions x 2 hours
Term 2 (16 April - 28 June) – 11 Sessions x 2 hours
Term 3 (16 July - 20 September) – 10 Sessions x 2 hours
Term 4 (08 October - 13 December) – 10 Sessions x 2 hours
Venue: Level 2, Greek Centre for Contemporary Culture, 168 Lonsdale St., Melbourne (map)
Dates: See each level below.
Time: 6:30-8:30 pm (A1, A2, B1, C1 levels) - 4:00-6:00 pm (B2level)**

** After the first class students may arrange, in consultation with the teacher to start their class one or half an hour earlier.

1. A1 level courses preparing students to be able to:

  • understand and use familiar everyday expressions and very basic phrases aimed at the satisfaction of needs of a concrete type.
  • introduce themselves and others and ask and answer questions about personal details such as where they live, people they know and things they have.
  • interact in a simple way provided the other person talks slowly and clearly and is prepared to help.

There are 4 classes to complete MG-A1 level starting from the entry class MG-A1.1 for absolute beginners and ending with the class MG-A1.4; each class lasts one term (9-11 sessions X 2 hours)

2. A2 level courses preparing students to be able to:

  • understand sentences and frequently used expressions related to areas of most immediate relevance (e.g. very basic personal and family information, shopping, local geography, employment).
  • communicate in simple and routine tasks requiring a simple and direct exchange of information on familiar and routine matters.
  • describe in simple terms aspects of their background, immediate environment and matters in areas of immediate need.

There are 4 classesto complete MG-A2 level starting from the class MG-A2.1 for students with a lower elementary knowledge and ending with the class MG-A2.4; each class lasts one term (9-11 sessions X 2 hours).

3. B1 level courses preparing students to be able to:

  • understand the main points of clear standard input on familiar matters regularly encountered in work, school, leisure, etc.
  • deal with most situations likely to arise whilst travelling in an area where the language is spoken.
  • produce simple connected text on topics which are familiar or of personal interest.
  • describe experiences and events, dreams, hopes and ambitions and briefly give reasons and explanations for opinions and plans.

There are 7 classes to complete MG-B1 level (lower intermediate level) starting from the class MG-B1.1 and ending with the class MG-B1.7; each class lasts one term (9-11 sessions X 2 hours).

4. B2 level courses preparing students to be able to:

  • understand the main ideas of complex text on both concrete and abstract topics, including technical discussions in his/her field of specialisation.
  • interact with a degree of fluency and spontaneity that makes regular interaction with native speakers quite possible without strain for either party.
  • produce clear, detailed text on a wide range of subjects and explain a viewpoint on a topical issue giving the advantages and disadvantages of various options.

There are 6 classes to complete MG-B2 level (lower intermediate level) starting from the class MG-B2.1 and ending with the class MG-B2.6; each class lasts one term (9-11 sessions X 2 hours).

5. C1 level courses preparing students to be able to:

  • understand a wide range of demanding, longer texts, and recognise implicit meaning.
  • express him/herself fluently and spontaneously without much obvious searching for expressions.
  • use language flexibly and effectively for social, academic and professional purposes.
  • produce clear, well-structured, detailed text on complex subjects, showing controlled use of organisational patterns, connectors and cohesive devices.

There are 7 classes to complete MG-C1 level (advanced level 1) starting from the class MG-C1.1 and ending with the class MG-C1.7; each class lasts one term (9-11 sessions X 2 hours).

6. New, speaking(Conversation) classes in 2018-Term 4 (October-December)!

Speaking(Conversation) classes for students who want to practise and improve their speaking skills.

Term 4 (08 October – 14 December) – 10 Sessions x 2 hours

  1. Speaking(Conversation) class-level A1-A2: For students who are between levels A1 and A2  (Common Reference Levels - self-assessment grid) on Mondays - commencing on 08/10/2018

  2. Speaking(Conversation) class-level B1-B2: For students who consider themselves above A2 level or are between levels B1 and B2 (Common Reference Levels - self-assessment grid) on Fridays - commencing on 12/10/2018

Note: Students who have attained C1 level should join the MG-C1.7 to practise and improve their speaking skills.
