Learn Modern Greek by attending our courses offered in 2017 and planned according to the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages *

Courses: Modern Greek A1, A2, B1, B2, C1 levels (Click each level to see the classes offered)
Term 1 (30 January - 30 March) – 9 Sessions x 2 hours
Term 2 (18 April - 29 June) – 10/11 Sessions x 2 hours
Term 3 (17 July - 21 September) – 10 Sessions x 2 hours
Term 4 (09 October - 14 December) – 10 Sessions x 2 hours

1. A1 level courses preparing students to be able to:

  • understand and use familiar everyday expressions and very basic phrases aimed at the satisfaction of needs of a concrete type.
  • introduce themselves and others and ask and answer questions about personal details such as where they live, people they know and things they have.
  • interact in a simple way provided the other person talks slowly and clearly and is prepared to help.

There are 4 stages to complete MG-A1 level starting from the entry stage MG-A1.1 for absolute beginners and ending with the stage MG-A1.4; each stage lasts one term (9-11 sessions X 2 hours)

2. A2 level courses preparing students to be able to:

  • understand sentences and frequently used expressions related to areas of most immediate relevance (e.g. very basic personal and family information, shopping, local geography, employment).
  • communicate in simple and routine tasks requiring a simple and direct exchange of information on familiar and routine matters.
  • describe in simple terms aspects of their background, immediate environment and matters in areas of immediate need.

There are 4 stages to complete MG-A2 level starting from the stage MG-A2.1 for students with a lower elementary knowledge and ending with the stage MG-A2.4; each stage last one term (9-11 sessions X 2 hours).

3. B1 level courses preparing students to be able to:

  • understand the main points of clear standard input on familiar matters regularly encountered in work, school, leisure, etc.
  • deal with most situations likely to arise whilst travelling in an area where the language is spoken.
  • produce simple connected text on topics which are familiar or of personal interest.
  • describe experiences and events, dreams, hopes and ambitions and briefly give reasons and explanations for opinions and plans.

4. B2 level courses
preparing students to be able to:

  • understand the main ideas of complex text on both concrete and abstract topics, including technical discussions in his/her field of specialisation.
  • interact with a degree of fluency and spontaneity that makes regular interaction with native speakers quite possible without strain for either party.
  • produce clear, detailed text on a wide range of subjects and explain a viewpoint on a topical issue giving the advantages and disadvantages of various options.

  • understand a wide range of demanding, longer texts, and recognise implicit meaning.
  • express him/herself fluently and spontaneously without much obvious searching for expressions.
  • use language flexibly and effectively for social, academic and professional purposes.
  • produce clear, well-structured, detailed text on complex subjects, showing controlled use of organisational patterns, connectors and cohesive devices.
