30th Greek Film Festival Lands in Melbourne!
The Greek Film Festival of Australia returns in 2025 with a major milestone: its 30th anniversary. Running from October 14 to 26, the festival will celebrate three decades of Greek cinema in Australia with screenings across Melbourne including retrospective gems and new releases.
Organised by the Greek Orthodox Community of Melbourne and Victoria, the three decade landmark edition promises a rich program that honours both the future and legacy of Greek storytelling on screen.
The festival will launch in Melbourne on Tuesday, October 14, with Opening Night Gala at Palace Cinemas.
Jorge Menidis, Director of the Antipodes Festival and the Greek Centre for Contemporary Culture in Melbourne, echoed the sentiment. “This is a moment to reflect on three decades of passion, storytelling, and cultural connection,” Menidis said. “Our 2025 program will bridge generations offering both cutting-edge cinema and a cherished look back.”
The opening night film will be announced in the coming weeks as well as the guest of honour. This year’s program will spotlight new independent Greek and Greek-themed films, as well as feature a special retrospective program, revisiting iconic works from past editions.
Among the highlights is the return of The Flea, the beloved family film that opened the very first Greek Film Festival in Australia, offering audiences a nostalgic full-circle moment.
Full programming details and the national schedule will be revealed after the opening night film announcement.
