The Annunciation of Our Lady to Reopen on 24 March

Melbourne’s Evangelismos Church, known as The Annunciation of Our Lady, is preparing to welcome back its faithful congregation after a transformative restoration project.

The reopening of this historic Greek Orthodox church will take place set against the backdrop of the Sunday of Orthodoxy feast and the National Day of March 25, 1821.

On Sunday 24 March, Evangelismos Church will unveil its refreshed interior with Bishop Kyriakos of Sozopolis, presiding over the Vespers on Sunday evening and the Divine Liturgy on Monday morning.

In a show of support for the church’s restoration endeavours, the Andrianopoulos Family has played a pivotal role. The restoration project, which includes a new marble floor and modernised furnishings, breathes new life into the church while honouring its storied past.

Founded in 1901, Evangelismos Church has been a steadfast pillar of the Greek community, fostering spiritual growth and cultural exchange for over a century.

Despite facing challenges such as a devastating fire in 2016, the church has remained resilient, embodying the enduring spirit of its congregation.

The grand reopening will be accompanied by a Luncheon featuring delectable fish and seafood, providing an opportunity for fellowship and celebration.

For those eager to join in the festivities, tickets for the Luncheon can be secured through
