The GCM has been in contact with Professor Sotirios Tsiodras, the well-known infectious disease specialist, who is heading the battle against Covid 19 in Greece.
He was born in Sydney and during his childhood, moved to Greece with his family.
We were hoping for him to deliver a lecture as part of our Thursday night Greek History and Culture Seminars series on how Greece is coping with COVID.
Unfortunately, this was not possible due to what looks like a second wave of COVID cases hitting Greece.
Understandably his priority is the safety of the Greek people and he and his team are working nonstop to ensure this.
He was however  kind enough to find the time to send us the following message of solidarity.
"Thank you so much for your letter. Please transfer my greetings to our beloved Greek community in Australia. Australia has performed extremely well in fighting the pandemic. Right now we are too fighting with a surge of infections in Europe as a whole and in our home country Greece.
The whole world stands united in fighting this virus and I am confident we will win."
