GCM Students Join Melbourne’s Greek National Day Parade

After a long wait of three years, the Greek community in Melbourne celebrated Greece's National Day with a parade on Sunday 19 March. This year's parade was held at South Melbourne FC's Lake Stadium in Albert Park and saw the participation of numerous local Greek schools and organisations.

Students from the GCM's Greek Language and Culture Schools, along with their teachers, and students from other community schools, took part in the parade.

On Saturday, March 18th, a Trisagion was held at the Shrine of Remembrance to honor the fighters and heroes of 1821. The event was attended by a group of GCM students and dignitaries such as State Premier Daniel Andrews, opposition leader John Pesuto, Archbishop Makarios, consul general Emmanuel Kakavelakis, and GCM's President Bill Papastergiadis, who laid wreaths.

The celebrations continued on March 25th at the historic church of the Greek Community of Melbourne, "The Annunciation of Our Lady," in East Melbourne.

The return of the parade for the 25th of March after a three-year hiatus was a momentous occasion for Melbourne's Greek community. The participation of dozens of schools and organizations, along with the dignitaries who attended, made the event even more significant. It was a day of pride and celebration of Greek culture and history in Australia.
