GCM Joins Multi-Faith Leaders in Statement of Unity and Solidarity
The President of the Greek Community of Melbourne, Bill Papastergiadis OAM, joined the Premier of Victoria, the Hon Jacinta Allan MP, and 15 faith and community leaders in the Victorian Cabinet Room to stand together in unity following the recent tragic attack in Bondi.
The meeting brought together representatives from Victoria’s diverse faith communities to condemn violence and extremism, express condolences to the Jewish community, and reaffirm a shared commitment to social cohesion, safety and mutual respect.
Participants signed a Statement of Unity and Solidarity, sending a clear message that communities across Victoria stand together and will not be divided by hate or violence.
Mr Papastergiadis said the meeting demonstrated the importance of collective leadership at a time of grief and uncertainty.
“Standing alongside faith and community leaders from across Victoria sends a powerful message that our shared values of respect, peace and unity are stronger than acts of violence,” Mr Papastergiadis said.
The meeting included representatives from Jewish, Muslim, Christian, Hindu and Sikh communities, reflecting the strength and diversity of Victoria’s multicultural society.
Premier Jacinta Allan committed to ongoing engagement with faith and community leaders, with regular meetings planned to continue strengthening social cohesion across the state.
